HISTORY
WisTREC was originally formed in 1994 as a program designed to increase the number of certified nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants working in underserved communities in Wisconsin. The program recruited and trained individuals already residing in and committed to an underserved community and provided educational and advanced employment opportunities in that community. Degree programs for these primary care professions were developed for, and made available through, distance education.

More information about the original WisTREC program can be found at http://academic.son.wisc.edu/wistrec/archive.
