Additional Scholarship Opportunities

In addition to scholarships awarded by the School of Nursing, we are contacted by a number of organizations offering financial assistance through scholarships to both graduate and undergraduate students. The following list provides information on those opportunities. Students are also encouraged to check with your hometown hospitals and clinics to see if they offer scholarships for nursing students.

Undergraduate Student Opportunities

  • Tylenol Future Care Scholarship – The makers of Tylenol offer a total of $250,000 in scholarships to 40 future health care professionals. Ten applicants will receive $10,000 each and 30 will receive $5,000 each. Awards will be announced August 31, 2013. Application available at the website. Deadline: June 15, 2013

  • Marshfield Clinic Scholarships - Marshfield Clinic has announced the funding of a baccalaureate scholarship program that will benefit multiple junior and senior BSN nursing students with awards totaling $3000 for fall 2013. Preference may be given to students or relatives who live/work in the Marshfield service area. Deadline: March 18, 2013 (additional information - pdf)

  • Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies Scholarships – A number of awards, grants, and scholarships to UW-Madison undergraduate and graduate students are awarded annually. These funding opportunities include research grants, study abroad scholarships, funding for conference travel, grants for "domestic study" (such as intensive summer language courses in the United States), and awards for general excellence in Jewish Studies coursework. Application forms and instructions are available on the Center’s website. - Deadline: various dates

  • Wisconsin Medical Society Scholarships - Two scholarships available to nursing students, the Amy Hunter-Wilson, MD, Scholarship and the John D. and Virginia Riesch Scholarship. Deadline: February 1, 2013.

  • UW Madison Liberal Arts Scholarship - This award is open to undergraduate students with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA submitting an essay on a specific, preselected topic. Information on the scholarship and topic can be found by logging in to Scholarships@UW-Madison – Deadline: January 25, 2013 (additional information –pdf.)

  • US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps Financial Assistance Program - This highly competitive program is available to full-time students about to begin their final year of academic study or professional training. Those selected for the program will become Commissioned officers in the US Public Health Service (USPHS) and receive full pay and benefits of an active duty officer for up to 12 months just for finishing their education and training.   • UW Continuing Studies Scholarships and Grants - UW Madison Continuing Studies’ Adult Career and Special Student Services offers continuing education grants and scholarships to assist adult and nontraditional students. Contact UW-Madison Adult Career and Special Student Services at http://continuingstudies.wisc.edu/advising/finance.htm or 608-263-6960 or advising@dcs.wisc.edu - Annual Deadlines: May 1, July 1, and November 1 for continuing education grants; March 1 for nontraditional student scholarships

  • ThedaCare Scholarships - Multiple scholarships are offered through the ThedaCare Foundation. - Annual Deadline: End of June

  • Nurses Foundation of Racine Scholarship - The Nurses Foundation of Racine is offering scholarships for nursing students who reside in Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth Counties. Applicants must be enrolled in a nursing program with at least one semester of the nursing curriculum completed. Applications may be obtained from the Nurses Foundation of Racine, PO Box 323, Franksville, WI 53126. - Annual Deadline: February 28

  • St Mary’s Hospital Minority Health Care Scholarship Program - The scholarship provides financial assistance to individuals with interest and commitment to pursuing a health care profession. Scholarships will be awarded to two minority students who meet the eligibility requirements.   • Sigma Theta Tau Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship Award - Multiple scholarships will be awarded based on academic performance, personal and professional goals, and professional and community service.   • Army Nurse Corps Association Scholarship - Financial assistance is offered to nursing students enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate and graduate nursing/nurse anesthesia program. Recipients must plan to enter the Army, Army National Guard or Army Reserve. - Deadline: March 31, 2013. - (additional information - pdf)

  • Grant Regional Health Center Foundation Health Career Scholarship - Scholarship awarded to individuals beginning or continuing their enrollment in a healthcare program. Priority given to residents of Grant County. - Annual Deadline: April 1 (additional information - pdf)

  • AfterCollege/AACN Scholarship - The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and AfterCollege, an employment website for nursing students, have partnered to offer a new scholarship program for students pursuing professional nursing education programs. Multiple scholarships are offered to baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral degree students with a minimum 3.25 GPA. Scholarships are awarded four (4) times a year. - Annual Deadlines: January 31, April 30, July 31, and October 31

  • DegreedUp.org Scholarship - Multiple $1250 scholarship awards offered to nursing students. Deadline: monthly - (additional information - pdf)

Graduate Student Opportunities

  • Air Force Health Professions Scholarships – The US Air Force awards graduate student scholarships through the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program. It pays for tuition, books and most fees and also gives students a monthly stipend for living expenses. Applicants must be registered nurses currently enrolled in a graduate program in maternal-child nursing.   • Mary Barker Advanced Practice Nursing Scholarship - Multiple scholarships, offered through the Wisconsin Nurses Association Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Forum.   • Sigma Theta Tau Graduate Nursing Scholarship Award - Multiple scholarships will be awarded based on academic performance, personal, community, and professional goals and accomplishments.   • Sigma Theta Tau Graduate Student Research Award - Awarded to Sigma Theta Tau member to support applicant’s research training and scholarship in nursing science. The recipient must be currently enrolled in either a Master’s or Doctoral program.   • Community Health Education Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship is available to individuals who have worked in community health in Wisconsin for the equivalent of two years within the last five years. The applicant must pursue a graduate degree in a community-health related field.
