If you would like to verify the OS of your computer:
  • On a Windows PC, right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties" from the menu
  • On a Macintosh, choose "About this Mac" from the Apple menu

To verify the browser version on a PC, look at the "Help" menu when the software is open, the last item is usually, About (name of software), and will state the version number. On a Mac, the first item under the (name of software) menu will state the version.

Update Internet Explorer using Windows Update on the PC; update Safari by using Software Update in the System Preferences on the Macintosh.

For a new or updated version of Firefox: Download Firefox (opens in a new window or tab).

Adobe Reader logo Requirement 2: Adobe Reader 6 or above

The Adobe Reader version cannot be reliably detected without opening a document, or you may have a different pdf reader (e.g., Preview) configured on a Mac. Try the sample document, which can also be used to check the version of Adobe Reader software: Version check (opens in a new window or tab; if you are asked to open or save the file, please choose "Open"). If you are using another pdf document reader and this document opens and you can read the title, Determining the Adobe Reader Version, then you should not have to upgrade your software.

If you would like to manually check for Adobe Reader, look in the "Adobe" folder within the "Program Files" folder on a PC, or find the Adobe Reader folder in the "Applications" folder on a Macintosh.
