Liability Coverage for Advance Practice Nursing Students

Advanced practice nursing students in the clinical areas during University scheduled breaks. The School of Nursing requires a minimum of 225-hours per semester of supervised clinical experience for a 3-credit advanced practice clinical practicum. This number of hours complies with professional certification guidelines. Due to illness, other personal circumstances, or scheduling problems it may be necessary for students to continue their clinical training during University scheduled breaks or holidays to fulfill the 225-hour requirement. Under these circumstances the advanced practice nursing students remain within the scope of their state agency as students, fulfilling the 225-hour requirement of and gaining supervised clinical experience in their clinical practicum. The School of Nursing considers students whose activities are within the scope of their state agency to have liability coverage that would include such supervised clinical activities occurring during University scheduled breaks and holidays.
